The Meaning of Geography to Me
Geography means constantly rethinking spatial environments and relationships. As a human
geographer, I find geography to be a way of thinking critically about how people interact in
and with space to improve their society.
Impact of iGeo Preparation on my Life
Participating in iGeo has given me the opportunity to explore and express ideas freely. I can
still remember the vivid feeling of enthralment I felt when facing an endless white paper
with a pen at hand and asked to design a tourism development plan for a segment of
Canadian coast. Since then, the experience has encouraged me to think radically, act
bravely, and propose innovative and creative solutions to geographical problems.
Ideas for Promoting Geography
I believe that iGeo needs a stronger network of Cypriot geographers, especially one
between students and young geographers. Myself and three more undergraduate
geography students from Cyprus have created a group called “Geography in Cyprus” which
attempts to do just that. Such platform can help bring together people and share iGeo and
other opportunities with its members. The group can also expand by collaborating with
geography departments in schools to connect geography enthusiasts from an early age.
Suggestions for the iGeo
iGeo would greatly benefit from more exposure on social media and other platforms.
